          2014

The School was created to further develop fencers from the dance centre. The School provides a more competitive environment to introduce students to the world-wide sport of fencing and start them on a sporting journey towards competing at club, state, national and international levels.

          1996

In 1995 I attended some adult classes at the Dance Development Centre and met Jackie's husband Gerry (Jackie Hallahan - Director of DDC). Every week after Pilates classes, I would teach Gerry fencing. After a year of lessons he asked me if I would be interested in teaching fencing at the dance centre and the rest is history.

          How I started fencing

You maybe wondering how and why I started fencing. Well way back in the 80's I used to play field hockey, a goalkeeper to be precise. I saw fencing on TV and was amazed how fast fencers moved and I wanted to improve my speed and agility as a goalkeeper.

In Civic there used to be the YMCA off London Circuit, now there are apartments residing on the site. In 1988 I searched through the Yellow Pages. Back in then we didn't have Google. Classes didn't start until the following year. I had to wait 4 months before I could enroll into the beginners course.

I fell in love with the sport and the rest is history.
